Crew

One of the ideas behind the project S/Y Jageren is that we want to invite fellow sailors on shorter or longer distances. Vi have many friends who have reported their interest to participate and we will try to organise it such that the yacht has 4 to 6 crew members at any time given. We also wish to invite people that we do not know today, but who would be nice to get to know in the future.

The permanent crew for the first year will be Gjermund. Sissel has a few commitments on her home field which she needs to pay attention to first.

She is expecting to come back strong for the passage down south to the Antarctic.

Explanation of certificates

D5L = Yacht skipper for vessel up to 50 gr.reg.tons, valid for coastal cruising.

D5LA = As D5L, but with added Astro navigation (sun/moon/stars). Valid worldwide.

VHF = Maritime certificate for radio telephony.

A large part of the crew has one or more of these certificates, and as such, they have solid theorethical background for the voyage. We hope that the practical background is equally good...

Sissel
Sissel has the most experience with water amongst us, both theorethical and practical. She holds a Dr. Ing. title with ground water as her speciality. Sissel comes from Voss (on the west coast of Norway) and has long experience from mountains and plains, both on skis, on foot, and hanging off steep mountains.

Her experience as a sea lady is limited, but with an impeccable will to finish she is a central player in the team. There exists a plan for a skiing trip together with Gjermund in the Antarctic.

Gjermund

Captain Jamtveit prefers to execute his skipper duties lying down. After having finished his D5LA course, he has a solid theorethical background for navigating the great oceans.

Gjermund has achieved many goals throughout his life. At a point in life goals change, and one wants to explore or test out new sides of oneself. This voyage is much about that.

Time to live.

Gjermund has sailing time both from the Norwegian coastal cruise line Hurtigruten as well as from international ships. Though this was not yesterday, the experience is there. In addition he has steered his own motor boats in Kragerø and the south coast of Norway for many years.

He has now transfered to sail.

Gjermund comes from Notodden.

Read more about S/Y Jageren and Gjermund in Kragerø's local paper Varden's frontpage and main article. Norwegian text only. Sorry. (May take some time to upload the pdfs).
