| And this is how it all started... |

The whole adventure started a summer's day in 2009. Some of us were on a boat trip outside Risør (Norway), others were cave diving in Sardinia. A few bright ideas about a journey, a long journey, and the ball was rolling.... The first thing we did was to fix a departure date. This was done and our departure from our old country was fixed on July 4th 2010 12.00 AM. After having performed this historic event, we began working on the small, but many, many important challenges. We wanted to sail, inspired by books we bought at a used market. In Risør we pictured a sailing voyage into the sunset with wind in both sails and hair. In order to sail, we needed a boat, in order to sail this boat we needed knowledge, in order to get knowledge we needed to get in touch with skilled people.
We have many persons to thank for having been able to purchase the yacht and a certain knowledge about what we are now facing, and this website will be our way to pay something back to all those who helped us, but could not join us on our journey. |

On February 16 the crew travels to Les Sables D`Olone for a last inspection of the vessel. The furnishing is done and pictures can be found in our photo gallery. What remains is engine and other technical pieces. The shipyard is delivering the boat without electronics: This will be installed during March.
Saturday Fabruary 20, we are going for an eight day cruise on the ferry ship Color Fantasy. Gjermund is having a D5LA course, Sissel and Håkon are having their D5L course. (D5L and D5LA are skipper certificates for leisure yachts up to 50 gr. tonnes: See more details about certificates on the crew page).
We are now closing in on the decision about which supplier of electronics we should choose. So far, it seems like we will end up on Raymarine for most components. |

"Under sail" |
|
The first time "under sail" was spent on websites for used boats, where we trawled the country for all there was of sailing yachts. A few were selected for closer study and test trips. We looked, we test sailed, and we got to know a lot of nice people, but we didn't find what we were looking for.
A friend of us, a proud owner of an aluminum yacht of unclear origin and age, invited us for a trip to Skagen in Denmark, and we were bitten by the thought of an aluminum yacht. Back on the Internet we limited our searching, but the result was dissapointing: Nothing. We extended our search to include worldwide, and found a few yachts lying around, including some in Florida.
We fly to Florida to have a look, but we are not satisfied. Much is being learnt in this period about what is important and what is less important. We feel that we must make a few decisions and we set a time limit for ourselves until after the Yacht fair in La Rochelle. We have a couple of sailing yachts on our hand: One in Netherland and one in Spain.
Our friend, the proud owner of the yacht of unclear origin and age, and the upcoming crew, take our seats in a car heading for Europe. After having visited X-Yachts in Denmark we spend Saturday evening in Amsterdam, of course, we are sailors, aren't we? The day after, or something like that, we are on our way to La Rochelle and we meet some nice chaps at Fora Marina. This shipyard builds great, well-sailing yachts constructed by Marc Lombard. |

We have also made an appointment with another shipyard that is building one of Lombard's boats, so we travel to Les Sables D`olonne where we find Chantier Alubat. This shipyard is building its boats in aluminum and creates a quality on their work that is simply admirable. Some of the crew fall in love immediately, while others have some doubts.
The yacht fair in La Rochelle is opening and we sorely need some qualitative asessments. Our choice has been limited to two alternatives, both new builds, and both constructed by Marc Lombard. What will be the right choice? To find the answer, we have to go to the source, and that's what we do....
We connect with one of the most reckognised yacht architects in the world, and sit down for a serious sailing chat with Marc Lombard about which of his two designs we should choose. A difficult choice for us, and a difficult choice for Marc Lombard. After we have presented our travel plans the conclusion emerges, and the choice lands on an Ovni 445 from Chantier Alubat.
After several yacht fairs in Paris and London, S/Y Jageren has been loaded with equipment and technology that should enable us to meet the great oceans with an acceptable yacht. |
